This week’s report covers new studio hardware, production software, AI music policy, and practical recording guidance. The most significant developments involve higher channel-count interfaces, wireless monitor management, generative DAW workflows, and increased transparency around AI-generated music.
GEAR & PRODUCT RELEASES
Focusrite ISA C8X Audio Interface
Focusrite has released the ISA C8X, a 26-in/28-out USB-C audio interface designed as a central studio hub. The unit provides eight digitally controlled microphone preamps. Channels one and two use genuine ISA transformer circuitry with Lundahl LL1538 transformers, up to 79 dB of gain, switchable impedance, balanced inserts, and analog high-pass filtering.
The ISA channels also include Console and 430 Air modes. Console mode adds saturation and low-end punch. 430 Air mode adds high-frequency presence. The remaining six preamps provide up to 69 dB of gain, Air mode, and variable Drive control.
The interface includes 12 balanced line outputs and three monitor groups. It supports monitoring from mono and stereo through 7.1.4 immersive configurations. Focusrite Control 2 provides remote access to preamp settings, routing, monitor control, headphone mixes, and saved session configurations.
Additional connectivity includes ADAT, S/PDIF, MIDI, Word Clock, two independent headphone outputs, and eight fixed-gain line inputs for permanent patchbay installations. Conversion operates at up to 24-bit/192 kHz with up to 125 dB of dynamic range. The listed U.S. price is $2,299.99.
KRK V Series Five Studio Monitors
KRK has added KRK Mesh wireless configuration and app-based control to its V Series Five studio monitors. The system uses the KRK Control App on iOS to provision monitors, create stereo or immersive rooms, assign speaker positions, and manage monitor groups.
The app can control EQ profiles, levels, mute status, standby behavior, input sensitivity, and other system settings. Users can configure stereo pairs or larger layouts, including Dolby Atmos-oriented rooms. Speakers can be controlled individually or as part of subgroups such as Front, Surround, or Overheads.
KRK Mesh operates as a control layer. Physical rear-panel controls remain available, so a wireless control problem does not remove access to the monitors. Review the KRK V Series Five downloads and manuals before installation. Confirm the required monitor layout before creating a room because the initial layout cannot be changed without deleting and recreating the room.
Vermona drumDING
Vermona’s drumDING is a six-track hybrid drum machine built around a single analog voice that can be sampled, processed, and sequenced. The analog section combines an oscillator, noise generators, impulse generator, multimode filter, envelopes, and modulation.
The central workflow is direct. Create an analog sound. Convert it to a sample. Manipulate the sample with pitch, reverse playback, envelopes, and effects. Use the sequencer to build a pattern. Repeat the process with new source material.
The sequencer supports polymeter, parameter locks, micro-timing, swing, probability, per-track LFO, trigger repeats, ratchets, and pattern chaining. Each project can hold up to 64 patterns and 32 samples. Samples use the WAV format and are stored on an SD card.

SOFTWARE & PLUGIN UPDATES
Suno Studio 2.0
Suno Studio 2.0 is now positioned as a browser-based generative DAW rather than only a prompt-driven music tool. The update adds MIDI import, recording, and editing directly on the timeline. Users can work with MIDI clips, audio clips, automation, instruments, and generated parts in one session.
A new wavetable synthesizer provides oscillators, filters, envelopes, LFOs, and modulation controls. MIDI clips can also be used as prompts for new audio generations. Users without a MIDI controller can enter notes with a computer keyboard.
The Studio Chat bar is available in beta. It can generate instruments, vocals, MIDI parts, plugins, and synth presets. It can also perform session tasks such as reorganizing tracks and applying production changes.
Advanced stem separation supports external audio and Suno-generated material. Users can extract individual parts and rebuild arrangements inside Studio. Automation curves, factory effects, custom chat-designed plugins, and 32-bit/48 kHz multitrack export are also included. Studio 2.0 is available to Suno Premier subscribers through the official Studio announcement.
Boris FX Sequoia 2026.5
Boris FX Sequoia 2026.5 introduces a unified Spatial Panner for mono, stereo, surround, immersive, Dolby Atmos, ADM, and channel-based formats up to 22.2.
The panner displays all sources routed to a target in a combined 2D or 3D view. Linked panning can update stereo, surround, and immersive targets together. Speaker snap, stereo controls, rotation tools, and object positioning reduce the need to switch between format-specific tools.
The update also adds SoundApp ARA for stem separation and denoising inside Sequoia. The update is free for users with an active subscription or upgrade and support plan. Read the Sequoia 2026.5 announcement.
Audio Damage AD-202
Audio Damage AD-202 is a software instrument modeled on the Roland MC-202 and related analog monosynth architecture. The core design uses one oscillator, a ladder low-pass filter, one envelope, and one LFO.
The plugin adds modern features that were not available in the original hardware. Poly mode provides eight voices with stereo spread and voice aging. Full MPE support provides per-note pitch bend and pressure. MTS-ESP support enables microtuning from an external tuning master.
The plugin is available in VST3, CLAP, AAX, AudioUnit, LV2, and AUv3 formats depending on the operating system. The AD-202 manual contains installation and compatibility information.
Emergence Audio Envoy
Emergence Audio Envoy is a dual-layer analog percussion instrument for Kontakt Player. Each layer includes a 32-step sequencer with five programmable parameters per step. Independent clocks can generate polyrhythmic patterns.
The Cadence Engine introduces continuous variation to timing, velocity, pitch, length, and sample selection. The system is designed to prevent rigid repetition while preserving the underlying pattern. Envoy includes approximately 600 analog percussion sources and is available through the Emergence Audio product page.

- Gospel Musicians Gospel Drummer targets gospel, worship, R&B, and neo-soul production with acoustic kits, MIDI grooves, multiple microphone perspectives, and separate routing.

INDUSTRY NEWS & TRENDS
Spotify Adds AI Persona Labels
Spotify will begin displaying an AI Persona badge on selected artist profiles in mid-September. The label identifies profiles whose public identity appears to be AI-generated and does not represent a real person.
Spotify states that AI Persona music will be excluded from editorial and algorithmic recommendations by default. Music can still appear for listeners who follow an AI Persona. The badge will appear on artist profiles, search results, and track rows in playlists.
The policy concerns artist identity, not necessarily how a song was produced. Spotify will continue using separate AI Credits and SongDNA systems for information about the creative process. Read the Spotify announcement.
Suno Signs BMG Licensing Agreement
Suno has announced a global partnership with BMG involving licensed music models, catalog access, opt-in participation, and compensation for participating artists and songwriters. The agreement follows Suno’s broader shift toward licensed training and controlled music exports.
Suno has also announced changes to its download policy. The changes are scheduled to take effect September 3, 2026. Free, Pro, and Premier accounts will receive different download allowances, while Suno Studio is exempt from the standard caps.
Suno has stated that AI-generated audio will receive watermarking and digital fingerprinting to support identification, distribution compliance, and fraud prevention. Review the BMG partnership announcement and download policy update.
SOCAN Partners With Musical AI
SOCAN and Musical AI are developing infrastructure for consent management, attribution, reporting, and compensation. The proposed system would allow rights holders to specify whether their works may be used in AI systems.
Musical AI’s technology analyzes AI-generated outputs and assesses influence connected to sound recordings and musical compositions separately. The resulting reports could support licensing, credit, and royalty workflows.
The system is still under development. The collaboration establishes a clear industry direction: AI use should be authorized, documented, attributed, and compensated. Read the SOCAN announcement.

QUICK HITS: STUDIO TIPS
- Set input gain before recording. Aim for consistent peaks around -18 dBFS to -12 dBFS on most sources. Leave additional headroom for unpredictable performances.
- Check monitoring at low volume. A balanced mix should retain its vocal, kick, bass, and main musical parts when playback is quiet.
- Use reference tracks correctly. Match overall loudness before comparing tonal balance. Louder playback can create a false impression of improved quality.
- Save a clean session template. Include labeled tracks, routing, buses, headphone sends, and a basic marker structure.
- Test one change at a time. Bypass the change and compare at matched volume. Document settings that improve translation across headphones, monitors, and consumer speakers.
