The Roland VP-9000 embodies the old saw about any sufficiently complicated mechanism being indistinguishable from magic. This DVD gives a view of the inner workings of an almost magical audio processor that is both informative and entertaining. The tour guide is a gentleman whose enthusiasm for the VP-9000 imbues his performance and is, I believe, entirely genuine. While most of the machine's functions have since been duplicated in software-based "virtual" processors, there is much to be said in favour of having a big, solid apparatus right there in the rack or on the table. While the machine itself is, sadly, discontinued, there is a loyal community of owners around the world and a steady trade in used units as new enthusiasts climb aboard, and any such would benefit greatly from this tutorial as an initial exposure to their capabilities.
