Skepta received one of the most prestigious awards in the Music Producers Guild. This award is now added on this name, with other awards in the music industry such as Mercury Prize and as a BRIT Award nominee.
Sponsored by Audio Note, this prestigious award, the 2019 Inspiration Award, is given to a recording professional who, in the opinion of the MPG Awards board of directors, is responsible for a body of work that has significantly inspired others, in terms of music production and other ways of the medium. This award was also given before to Imogen Heap, Nile Rodgers, Roni Size, Damon Albarn, Glyn Johns, and Sylvia Massy. And Skepta is now added to these inspirational artists.
Starting as a music producer, doing sounds and mixing, also being an MC back in 2004, Skepta has become one of the most important British artists in the music industry today. With his works, he was able to build an extensive and defining catalog of hits, with four studio albums and being featured artist on numerous successful releases. Skepta becomes an undeniable force in the music industry, especially in the grime scene but also has built a solid fan base with his musical aesthetic in contemporary culture, influencing different artists and their craft across the glove.
Bruno Ellingham, executive director of the MPG, said: “Skepta has been at the forefront of the grime scene for some time, his influence now crosses genres and is felt not only in music but in the art and fashion worlds too. Now feels like the perfect time to acknowledge his achievements and we are thrilled to be presenting him with this prestigious award.”
The MPG Awards took place at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London on February 28, 2019.
